Chancellor Rishi Sunak will be launching a £2bn Kickstart Scheme. This will subsidise six-month work placements for people on universal credit aged between 16 and 24.
The scheme will directly pay employers to create new jobs for anyone aged 16-24 at risk of long term employment. The jobs must be for a minimum of 25 hours a week and must be new, additional jobs with staff being paid at least minimum wage. Employees must be in their new jobs by autumn.
Employers could see grants for around £6,500 if they meet these conditions, as the government will pay the young peoples wages for six months, plus and amount for overheads.
Employers can apply next month.
