The European average stands at 34 per cent of the weekly wage, according to research of 41 different countries by international delivery management company Urbantz. The worst European country to be hit by soaring prices is Albania, with a tank of fuel (55 litres) costing 94 per cent of a person’s weekly wage. On the other extreme, fuel is most affordable in Switzerland, where residents spend 76 per cent less of their weekly wage on petrol than the rest of Europe.
Although the UK has the tenth most expensive fuel in Europe at £1.45 a litre, when taken as a percentage of weekly wage, British residents would need to spend 15% of their earnings on a full tank. This puts the UK 36th on the list of countries where fuel is least affordable.
